Abstract
Paper is a staple in everyday office work, used for everything from photocopying documents to printing materials. However, different types of paper serve different purposes. Today, Xiao Hong will walk you through the most common types of office paper and share some tips for choosing the right kind.
I. A Comprehensive Guide to Common Types of Office Paper
1. Inkjet printing paper
Inkjet printing paper is specifically designed for inkjet printers, delivering exceptional print quality that far surpasses that of ordinary copy paper. It is primarily used in laser printing, CAD plotting, thermal transfer printing, electrostatic copying, and faxing, among other applications.
2. Computer printing paper
Computer printing paper is available in one-ply, two-ply, three-ply, four-ply, and five-ply varieties, primarily used in mobile phone service centers, banks, and other similar settings. When making a purchase, it’s essential to clearly determine the required number of plies to avoid selecting the wrong option.
3. Copy paper
Copy paper has a wide range of applications and can be used in laser printers, dot-matrix printers, copiers, inkjet printers, and other devices where output quality is not a primary concern. It is mainly employed for documents such as forms, copied texts, and diagrams.
4. Carbon paper
Carbon paper is classified into carbon-based carbonless paper and carbonless carbon paper. It is commonly used for multi-part forms and receipts. Carbon-based carbonless paper can be used with fountain pens, pencils, typewriters, and other writing instruments, and the ink can be transferred onto ordinary paper; however, a drawback is that it tends to stain hands and clothing. Carbonless carbon paper, on the other hand, is a type of invisible-ink copying paper: writing on it with a pen causes the ink to develop directly.
5. Thermal Printing Paper
Thermal paper is a type of coated paper, also known as thermal copy paper, thermal fax paper, or thermal recording paper. It is manufactured by coating a high-quality base paper with a layer of “thermal coating,” and is primarily used for faxing, receipt printing, label production, electrocardiogram tracing, and similar applications.
6. Cash register paper
For standard dot-matrix printers, ordinary 1–3-ply thermal paper can be used; for thermal-head printers, only thermal paper is suitable. Cash register receipt paper is the roll of paper used by cash registers to record transaction details, with the primary function of providing customers with a detailed shopping receipt.
